What is White Matter

White matter is the brain tissue through which messages pass between different areas of grey matter within the nervous system. Using a computer network as an analogy, the grey matter can be thought of as the actual computers themselves, whereas the white matter represents the network cables connecting the computers together.

Two Rivers – Part - 2 [Father & Daughter]

Year 1994:-
[A Town in North India]

“Shhhhh!!!! Shimmy!!! Don’t behave like this, you are embarrassing us. What our guests would think? ”

There was a cute but angry little girl (Age 7) rolling on the floor, crying. No one was able to touch and console her. What she wanted was a new Pen and notebook to write. She had to complete screenplay for her upcoming movie “Man of Steel”.

Mom was all praise for her abilities to visualize, write and tell stories in a way to keep listener engrossed and curious.

“You know, she is writing a story for movie, what was the name, umm, hmmm, Men of Tin.”

“No, no, Mom!!! It is Man of Steel.” – She corrected and told eagerly to guests, only to resume her rowdy act again.

It was impossible to stop a trail of laughs for guests and parents. Soon father made a wholeheartedly offer of Rs.20/- to brought her smiles back, in lieu of promise that she would tell her story to guests.

Within a second, she started to tell her movie story line  with great enthusiasm. [Till guests sat in auto and waved the family good-bye, finally ;)]

“Our Shimmy is very talented but at the same time, she is naughty and playful. She keeps falling many times, even on the plain floor. She just plays, dances and writes. No concentration on single thing which is taught in school. Sometimes she asks weird questions about magic, fairies, witches and ghosts. The other day she asked me about how to invite spirits. I wonder how she will perform in study, unlike her studious elder sister Madhu. And you just laugh. When everything would be out of control, you will see. ” – Mom undone her frustration over husband.

“You know, how a kid acts when the age of maturity comes. Just opposite. You will surely see her turning into a responsible young woman and taking care of us like parents. And it is the age, when she’d to enjoy and do everything what she wants including nagging and crying. At least I could hug her, console her and listen to her unending stories. Don’t you think we would miss these acts, when she will be grown up and finally move away with her husband? I can’t imagine that day.” – Few stars made of light, reflected in his tears, waiting to roll down and he wiped them.

Year 2005:-

Father was right. Despite of her adventurous childhood filled with naughty acts, she had grown into a studious girl, maintaining her position in Top 5 in senior classes. [Though her adventurers also got matured ;), which father will never know?]

The day came, when she was about to bid bye her hometown, for engineering, towards an unknown region, Chennai, South India. It was third Sunday of June and Father was packing her college bag, with watery eyes.

“Papa, you are crying like I am leaving after marriage. I will be calling you every day or if not in week. I pinned your schedule of doses at study table and will call you to remind.”

Shimmy had seen him wiping off tears in solitude many times or in front of everyone too, on every success, every small pain-n-fever and even after every naughty act of her. He maintained a norm of disciplined and tough father but not this time. He embraced her and his tears were flowing down the cheeks, above her shoulder.

At that moment, he opened his bag and gave her a new diary and pen. However few old things dropped out of his bag and tears of Shimmy, out of her eyes. He had preserved her old empty and used pens, short pencils and erasers.

With trembling hands she put something in father’s front pocket. A recorded audio cassette with title – “Man of Steel - By Shimmy” and “Happy Father’s Day - 2005”
Such small moments are inexplicable, intense and emotional. And their place is fixed inside the hearts of near and dear ones, like a pearl.Yes, invaluable pearls.

Finally she left for a journey, adventurous, momentous and towards an unwritten destiny. She never knew that she will meet her soul-mate in Chennai, coming from the same region, few miles away from her hometown and yes, both will fall in love.

5th day at the college corridor:-
Damn her zodiac sun sign, Aquarius!!! Damn his sun sign Scorpio!!!

Two Rivers – Part – 1 [Love you for a Thousand Years & More]

21st November

“Good morning, Shimmy!!! Your ginger tea is ready!!!”

Ankush floated a warm kiss, walked over to terrace and prepared two cups of tea. A breeze passed through the waving curtains and stroked his gray hairs, which covered his forehead.

After having tea, Ankush moved back and forth while trying a ball room dance step.

“Gosh, you look beautiful today. I keep forgetting the steps. You know, I am still learning dance ;). Hey, you are smiling again.”

“That curve of smile keeps me alive and makes me breathless at same time. Am I dead or alive? Okay, skipping few breathes are not important than missing you.”

Four gentle hands pulled his face down and pecked wet kisses on cheeks and broken his spell of dance.

“Grandpa, Granny had asked to give these small gifts, on this special day.”

Two cheerful little girls, danced around him with a sweet song.

“Happy birthday to you!!!”

After a crazy birthday dance performance, innocent Sharvari, 3 year old, asked him.

“Grandpa, you were talking to someone, while dancing alone. Who is here? Why do you drink tea from 2 cups, every day?”

 “Shhhhh” - Pankhuri, the elder sister placed index finger on her lips.

21st November
New Delhi.

Shimmy stood opposite dressing table and applied kohl on her eyes. She put on raspberry lipstick matching with her nail polish and top. The face of Ankush appeared in the mirror with waving gray hairs, covering his forehead. She smiled and floated a kiss, straightening her palm. A warm tear appeared at the corner of her eyes.

“Mom, your two cups of tea ready!!!” – Radha, her daughter, chirped.

Shimmy took one sip from her cup and then from another. After that, she held Radha’s hand and put one hand on her waist. She started singing a sweet song and both matched steps of ballroom dance on the rhythm.
The day we met,
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew that I'd found a home for my heart...
Beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone?
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

~~~"A Thousand Years [Christina Perry] – Glee Cast"
“Wow, perfect dance, Mom!!! “
“Yet to learn singing, like your papa!!!” – Shimmy had a sigh.
“It is papa’s birthday, let us call him now!”
No dear, we don’t need a call to connect. He probably knows what I am doing. We used to be in long distance relationship, for long. I guess, even after living life happily ever after, we will maintain a long distance relationship between heaven and hell, Ha Ha Ha!!!!”
A Voice SMS blinked on Radha’s phone and she played it:-
“Your mom is a good dancer, isn’t it? What about singing ;) Shimmy; do not forget to take my return gift from Radha.
[Ankush started singing with a soulful voice while playing guitar – Male couplet of above duet]
Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me?
Every breath
Every hour has come to this
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more”
“SeeHe knew.” – Shimmy had a crooked smile and a big lump in her throat.
While clapping with wide smile, Radha was amazed to watch real characters of a perfect love story, in front of her watery eyes.
“Incredible!!!! How could you love him and he loves you back, even for a day, when you people are thousand miles apart. Not this time but umpteen times. In this era of faster breakups than a pizza delivery, tell me, how you’d made this possible?”
“Yeah, we want to hear your extraordinary story, please, Mom”
She switched on voice recorder and the amazing pages of a long distance love story, started turning one by one, in voice of Shimmy and pen of Radha.
